LSU’s defensive staff could see some stability.
Matt Zentiz of CBS sports is reporting that Lane Kiffin has elected to retain defensive coordinator Blake Baker.
Lane Kiffin plans to keep Blake Baker as LSU’s defensive coordinator, sources tell @CBSSports.
Has LSU ranked 15th nationally in scoring defense this year, just two years after the Tigers ranked 81st in that category prior to him being hired. https://t.co/Hnyuu9BvQr pic.twitter.com/UNWJUTYzXc

In his second season in Baton Rouge, Baker’s defense finished the regular season ranked No. 25 nationally in total defense and 15th in scoring. Baker inherited the worst statistical defense in LSU history in 2023. He handpicked edge rushers coach Kevin Peoples and safeties coach Jake Olson. LSU alums Corey Raymond and Kyle Williams rounded out a stout staff that could look very similar in year one under Kiffin.
Baker played collegiately at Tulane which is in the market for a head coach following the departure of Jon Sumrall to Florida. He could be an option for the Green Wave, but at this time he will continue his role at LSU.
