Report: Carson Beck will enter the transfer portal

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck will enter the Transfer Portal, according to a report from On3.

This would seem to indicate a change of heart for Beck, who announced before last week’s Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame that he would forgo his final year of eligibility and enter the 2025 NFL Draft. The decision came after a season-ending elbow injury to his throwing arm. He underwent successful UCL surgery in December and initially planned to enter the draft.

However, entering the portal does not prevent Beck from entering the Draft, but instead provides him options.

The deadline to enter the Transfer Portal passed Dec. 28, but players are allowed an extended window five days after their bowl game. Georgia’s season ended in last week’s loss to Notre Dame, so Beck can’t formally enter the portal until the spring window. Because his arm surgery would not allow him to participate in spring practice, there would not appear to be a rush to land in a new spot. Also, the SEC prohibits players from transferring within the conference during the spring portal window. If Beck does play college football in 2025, it will be at Georgia or a school outside the SEC.

Underclassmen have until Jan. 15 to declare for the NFL Draft, with an extended window for players competing in the College Football Playoff Championship Game. Beck could use this time to weigh his feedback from the NFL Draft Advisory Board and test his value among college programs for 2025.

Beck entered the season projected as a sure-fire first-round pick. However, he struggled at times, finishing the year with 12 interceptions, including three games with at least three interceptions. Despite the turnovers, Beck led the SEC with 28 touchdown touchdown passes during the regular season and finished with 3,485 yards.

He has 24-4 career record as a starter, 7,912 passing yards, and 58 touchdowns. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
