Last week, Brian Kelly told reporters LSU was planning to add more offensive line help via the Transfer Portal. That help came Friday when Northwestern transfer Josh Thompson committed to the Tigers.

Multiple reports previously predicted Thompson to land at Tennessee. He was also considering Auburn.
Thompson was a three-star prospect when he signed with the Wildcats in 2021. He redshirted as a freshman before playing in eight games as a backup in 2022. As a redshirt sophomore in 2023, Thompson started 11 games at right tackle before starting 10 games at right gaurd this season.
According to Pro Football Focus, Thompson graded 78.3 in run blocking and 83.5 in pass blocking. The run blocking grade is higher than any LSU offensive lineman in 2024 and the pass blocking grade is better than All American Will Campbell this season.
With LSU losing four starters on the offensive line, Thompson could play guard or tackle for the Tigers in 2025, sources tell LouisianaSports.net. LSU has already signed Viginia Tech center Braelin Moore and the staff is pursuing additional offensive line transfers, sources added.
Thompson is LSU’s 14th portal addition with offensive line and safety help remaining as the team’s primary needs.
