Mississippi State QB Shapen to miss rest of 2024
09/23/2024
Mississippi State will be without transfer quarterback Blake Shapen for the rest of the 2024 season head coach Jeff Lebby confirmed Monday.
Shapen, a Shreveport native, injured his right shoulder in Saturday’s game against Florida.
“We’re all hurting for Blake after this unfortunate news,” Lebby said in a statement. “Blake is the ultimate competitor and teammate and an unquestioned leader in our program. I know he will work incredibly hard to come back stronger than ever, and he will continue to serve as a team leader from the sidelines. We will support Blake every step of the way during his recovery process and explore all options to help him seek a medical hardship waiver to regain his lost year of eligibility.”
Shapen transferred to Mississippi State from Baylor. Through four games this season, Shapen was third in the SEC in passing yards with 974 in addition to throwing eight touchdowns and only one interception. Freshman Michael Van Buren replaced Shapen against Florida and completed seven of 13 throws for 100 yards. He was a three-star prospect according to On3 and 247sports.
