Louisiana has an unfamiliar but understandable allegiance for this year’s Super Bowl. The Bayou State is one of just ten to be siding with Washington to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in New Orleans, thanks almost certainly to former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels.

The map below courtesy of BetOnline.ag is based on geotagged X data from Sunday evening to now (when the matchups were set) tracking official fan hashtags in each state to see which of the remaining four teams each state is rooting for. For example, #BillsMafia, #RaiseHail, #ChiefsKingdom, or #FlyEaglesFly. Over 200,000 tweets were tracked.

As you can see from the map, once the fan favorite Detroit Lions were eliminated, NFL fans jumped on the Bills bandwagon for multiple reasons. The Bills are going up against the Kansas City Chiefs, who are now the most “hated” NFL team (mostly because people are sick of them winning, and the perceived idea that they get preferential treatment from the refs). Another reason, they’re the only team left that hasn’t won a Super Bowl and lost four straight Super Bowls in the 90s.

Also interesting is how the Washington Commanders are getting fan attention, notably due to the success of rookie QB Jayden Daniels. The New England states are definitely not rooting for the Chiefs, the division rival Bills, or any team from Philadelphia… so that just leaves the Commanders for those six states. Louisiana is also rooting for the Commanders, likely because Daniels is from LSU.

Here is the state breakdown:

Bills – 33 states                             (all other states)
Commanders – 10 states             (Connecticut, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, NH, RI, Vermont, Virginia, WV)
Chiefs – 4 states                           (Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska)
Eagles – 3 states                           (Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania)
