LSU head coach Beth Torina earned her 700th career win Wednesday night as No. 5/6 LSU defeated Louisiana Tech 9-1 in six innings at Tiger Park.

“It was a really complete game by our team,” Torina said postgame. “And it was great to see Katelyn Klopfenstein go the distance. She’s getting better every time out.”

Torina ranks No. 38 among active Division I head coaches and holds a program-best 571 wins at LSU, which is more than any coach in school history.

Now the Tigers (34-6) turn their focus to a massive SEC road series at No. 3 Texas A&M, beginning Friday.

“They’re a complete team,” Torina said Thursday during an appearance on Off the Bench with Jacob Hester and T-Bob Hebert on 104.5 ESPN Baton Rouge. “An All-American lefty throwing 70 mph, power, speed—they’ve got it all. It’s one of the toughest places to play.”

LSU leads the SEC with 13 ranked wins and boasts a .362 team batting average, a .469 on-base percentage, and a top-three pitching staff nationally. Eight starters are hitting over .340.

“We talk a lot about how people have to play us, too,” Torina said. “Our team does a great job focusing on who we are, not who’s in the other dugout.”

Following a Sunday loss to Alabama, Torina said changes are coming.

“I didn’t love how I managed the pitching staff,” she said on Off the Bench. “We’ve got a better plan. If we’re in a game late, we have to be cutthroat. No saving anything for tomorrow.”

With top-10 opponents ahead, Torina is keeping her team focused on the moment.

“We’ve got to play the next pitch,” she said. “If we try to chew on the whole thing at once, it’s overwhelming.”
