SEC at the 2025 Masters: Scheffler cruises, Dunlap implodes

By Chris Marler
The time for strolls down Magnolia Lane and viral videos of six-year-olds putting in the Par 3 Contest is over. The 2025 Masters began Thursday—and for some, their shot at the green jacket ended just as quickly.
Here’s a quick recap of SEC players on day one of The Masters.
Of the 18 total players representing the SEC, only five finished under par on day one. Surprising no one, Scottie Scheffler led the way with a 68 to finish four under par. Over half of the Georgia contingent finished under par, as well. Twelve players finished three over or better and are still in contention.
However, none of the players in contention, under par, or even Scottie Scheffler had the most memorable day on Thursday. Sadly, that distinction went to former Alabama golfer Nick Dunlap.
This has to be one of most unbelievable stats in Masters history.

Dunlap finished his day +18. Double take all you want, you read it right. He finished 18 over par. In addition to being one of the worst rounds in the history of the tournament, he managed to do it without a single three putt. Logistically speaking…nevermind, there are no words.
Here’s how every player finished after day one.
