MLB.com dubs Anderson No. 1 pick

LSU could have the top pick in the Major League Baseball Draft for a second time in three years.
MLB.com’s most recent mock draft features the sophomore southpaw Kade Anderson as the projected No. 1 pick to the Washington Nationals.
“Anderson heads into Super Regional play second behind Tennessee’s Liam Doyle in strikeouts among all Division I pitchers and is coming off a Regional start in which he tossed seven shutout innings, striking out 11 while allowing just four hits and two walks. The lefty is athletic, throws strikes and has a legit four-pitch mix. With all of his stuff ticking up in the Regional, it looks like he still has plenty in the tank, checking off the durability box. Oh, he’ll also have just turned 21 before the Draft as a sophomore-eligible prospect.” –Jonathan Mayo
Paul Skenes was the No. 1 overall pick in 2023 to the Pittsburgh Pirates. He became the second top pick in LSU history joining Ben McDonald (1989). The National selected Skenes’ teammate Dylan Crews with the next pick in the draft.
Anderson is 9-1 on the season with a 3.28 ERA. He’s struck out 156 hitters in 96 innings. That total ranks second nationally behind Tennessee’s Liam Doyle who has 158.
LSU, behind Anderson, is attempting to reach the College World Series this weekend in Super Regional play against West Virginia beginning Saturday at 1:00.
The MLB Draft is set to begin Sunday, July 13 in Atlanta.
