The trend started near the end of January when Nebraska announced their decision to cancel their spring scrimmage. Shortly after, several prominent Power Four programs such as Texas, Alabama, and Southern Cal followed suit.
The decision comes on the heels of an announcement that ESPN and SEC Network gave SEC programs the option to either air their spring game or take part in a series aimed at producing “behind the scenes programming” for a 30-minute show on each program who participates.
So far, Texas A&M is the only school who has opted-in to airing their Spring game over the 30-minute show.
