Carr, Ramczyk retirements not yet officially processed

By Ross Jackson
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Now that June 1 has passed, NFL teams are processing several roster moves that have been on hold for some time. Waiting beyond June 1 allows teams to be able to defer a portion of dead cap hits into the next year, a helpful way to lighten the burden of off-loading swollen contracts.
Across the league, several retirements became official on Monday, and the New Orleans Saints were expected to have a couple of names in that number. However, neither of the Saints’ pending retirements were made official on June 2, an expected possibility.
The retirements of former #Saints QB Derek Carr and OT Ryan Ramczyk did not appear on today’s NFL transaction wire.
Whether they post today or weeks from now won’t matter too much aside from the roster spots, but assume they won’t take long to make those moves official.

The following retirements were made official:
- Miami Dolphins T Terron Armstead (a former Saint)
- Baltimore Ravens NT Michael Pierce
- Houston Texans DB Ronald Darby
- Philadelphia Eagles DE Brandon Graham
The fact that the Saints’ retirements of former quarterback Derek Carr and former offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk are not included on the list is not a bad thing.
It simply means that the moves didn’t cross the league’s transaction wire yet. It’s not indicative of any hiccups or about faces.
Whether or not these retirements become official on Monday, Tuesday or two weeks from now all means the same monetarily. The reason for New Orleans to get into a hurry is to open up the two roster spots for new talent to be brought in.
With the team hosting cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. last month and defensive tackle Jonathan Bullard this week, there’s a clear expectation that roster spots will become available soon.
