Former Tiger Hurd to have Tommy John surgery

Thatcher Hurd’s first season of professional baseball ended before it started.

The former Tiger hurler is slated to undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow next week according to Baseball America.

Hurd was a third-round selection of the New York Yankees after a pair of seasons with LSU. A back injury ended his freshman season at UCLA in 2022. He made 41 appearances at LSU including 26 starts.

In LSU national championship clinching win in the College World Series, Hurd earned the win firing six innings two-run innings with seven strikeouts against Florida. In his final outing as a Tiger, he limited host North Carolina to two runs in 5.2 innings of work to help keep LSU’s season alive.
