ICMYI: M-I-Z! W-T-H! Freshman antics and The Captain

By Chris Marler
M-I-Z! W-T-H!
What the heck happened in College Station this weekend? Missouri came into their series against Texas A&M winless in SEC play, 0-24!
Not anymore. The Tigers are 3-24, baby!
Missouri swept Texas A&M on the road, and did so emphatically. The series was bookended with a six-run ninth inning for a come from behind win on Friday and a 10-1 win Sunday where the Aggies were held to just two hits. On a scale of 1-to-Amanda Bynes collapses, this weekend was basically Ikea furniture put together with Elmer’s glue.

There’s almost zero chance that Missouri will make the postseason. They would have to make their way through the SEC Tournament unscathed and win the whole thing in Hoover. Wknew there was no chance the Tigers were getting in the postseason. Now we may know the exact same for Texas A&M.
Make America Earhole Batters again
Two separate incidents this weekend brought a ton of negative attention to two teams and ire from fans everywhere.
On Friday, Texas freshman Jonah Williams went viral for all the wrong reasons. Williams was unhinged at best during his late inning at bat against Florida. The 17-year-old freshman was fired up after working this walk and down seven runs.
Texas’ Jonah Williams talking shit to the entire Florida team down 7 runs is certainly a choice. pic.twitter.com/EUyalL0sNz

For obvious reasons, he was dragged on social media for his antics. To their credit, Texas fans defended him unapologetically. It’s a new age of college baseball where bat flips, trash talks, and showmanship are all very much a part of it. Regardless of how you feel about it, it’s a part of the game.
But that was a bit much.
I wish he did it the next day, though. That’s because despite being the newest SEC social media villain, Williams hit the go ahead double to pull the series to even.

Some REDEMPTION in that swing of the bat for the two sport youngster 🤘🔥 pic.twitter.com/cDa7Z5Uyzk

Tremendous response from the freshman. Now let’s do a little “woosah” exercise from Bad Boys II and calm down a little bit when awarded a free base.
Cocksfitters
Paul Mainieri and South Carolina are the worst team and story of the 2025 season. You could make a valid argument that even before Missoui swept Texas A&M that South Carolina has been the worst team in the conference this season.
South Carolina baseball has become like a Crossfitter. They are constantly setting new personal best in the worst ways possible. This week was no different.

Last week South Carolina got swept by Florida, allowed 39 runs and were outscored by 31 runs on the weekend. This weekend was somehow worse. The Gamecocks were once again swept, this time by Auburn. They were outscored by 31 runs on the weekend. However, this weekend their pitching staff allowed 46 runs in three games.
They’ve allowed an average of 10 runs in their last 18 games against SEC teams.
Yes, you read that right.
Best thing you’ll see all weekend
Rarely in the SEC do you find a player or team that is universally loved regardless of who they play for. Former Ole Miss first baseman Tim Elko was definitely that. Elko became a legend in Oxford. He tore his ACL in 2021 and proceeded to play that season despite the injury. He became the emotional leader of the 2022 national championship team and now has a statue outside of Swayze Field.
Elko was a 10th round pick, but made his way up every level of the White Sox organization and was called up this weekend to the big leagues.
Tim Elko finding out he’s getting called up. A must watch.

Then, his first major league hit? You guessed it. A home run. What a moment.

Tim Elko’s first big league hit was a 3-run shot in the 6th!
