March Madness has been a historically top heavy, chalky tournament this year. What the NCAA Tournament failed to give fans with Cinderella stories and late game dramatics, college baseball has delivered tenfold. Who needs KenPom when we have web gems and metal bat bombs?

Regardless, if you were one of many who tuned into the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 this weekend, here’s what you may have missed in SEC Baseball.

George “W” and the W is for Woo Pig

Arkansas swept Vanderbilt for the first time in 20 years. The series started and finished the weekend with two deflating games for the Commodores. The Hogs won the Friday night opener 9-0 in dominant fashion. Then on Sunday, they completed the sweep with a five-run eighth inning to overcome a 5-2 deficit.

The last time the Omahogs swept the Vandy Boys, Twitter was still two years from being created. Lucky for us, it’s around now, so we all got to see this gem from the Arkansas Baseball account. Well done, admin. Well done.

Texas A&M making history!

Here are some fun facts you may not know about Texas A&M:

  1. Texas A&M had more officers serve in World War II than West Point and the Naval Academy combined (14,000)
  2. They’re the first, and oldest, higher education institution in the state of Texas (1876)
  3. They hold the record for largest buyout ever paid to a college football coach ( $76.8 million to Jimbo Fisher).

Now the Aggies are looking to make some more history by becoming the first team since 1996 to not make NCAA Regionals after starting the season as the No. 1 ranked team in the country. Yikes.

The Aggies are currently 1-8 in SEC play and will travel to Knoxville next weekend to take on the 26-2–and the deserving No. 1 team in America–Tennessee Volunteers.

Weekly “LSU can be scary good” stat

The top of LSU’s batting order is as good or better than anyone else in America. We know that.

Derek Curiel, Jared Jones, and Daniel Dickinson are all hitting over .360, have an on-base percentage over .500, and have combined for 20 home runs, 104 RBIs and 111 runs.

However, what the rest of the lineup has been able to do when those guys struggle has been massive for Jay Jay Johnson’s club. This weekend’s series against Mississippi State is a perfect example of that. Curiel, Jones, and Johnson were a combined 4-for-24 with seven strikeouts and six runners left on base in the first two games of the series.

LSU won both of those games and clinched the series before the bats at the top of the order woke up in game three Saturday. That’s when we got to see how scary this lineup is when it’s firing on all cylinders. On Saturday night, the trio went 8-for-13 with eight runs and seven RBIs.

If Georgia ever learns how to pitch, they’ll be in Omaha

Georgia swept Auburn this weekend in Athens to improve to 28-2 on the season. That’s the best start for the Bulldogs through 30 games in school history. The Bulldogs’ pitching continues to be a legitimate concern for a team that has the talent, and resumé so far, to get to Omaha. The staff ranks 13th in the SEC in ERA at 4.88. They also have combined for 175 walks and hit batters this season which is the most in the country.

Luckily their offense has been so good this year that they haven’t just been able to win games, they’ve been able to destroy teams. Georgia has scored ten runs or more in 14 of their last 24 games. They’re not just doing it in the midweek games either. The Dawgs have put up double digit runs in five of their first nine SEC games.

They might be the best team in the state – including the Braves.
