Josh Thompson, the transfer offensive lineman from Northwestern, was not with his new team Saturday afternoon. He is back in Evanston completing his bachelor’s degree. Unlike LSU, Northwestern works on the quarters system. Thompson is expected to complete his coursework and exams by March 21 and is set to join his new team thereafter, a source with knowledge of the situation told LouisianaSports.net.
Thompson played four seasons at Northwestern, starting at both right tackle and right guard during his time as a Wildcat. He is expected to compete at both positions for LSU when he arrives.
With Thompson out for the early portion of spring practice, a source indicated that LSU first offensive line on Day 1 consisted of Tyree Adams, Paul Mubenga, Braelin Moore, D.J. Chester and Weston Davis from left to right.
Moore, the Virginia Tech transfer, started 24 games for the Hokies and is expected to be the first team center. That insertion means Chester, the incumbent center, will compete at guard.
LSU spring practice runs through the National L Club Spring Game on April 12.
