Judge rules Greg Brooks can proceed in negligence claim against LSU, OLOL

At least a portion of Greg Brooks Jr.’s lawsuit against LSU and Our Lady of the Lake can proceed.
On Tuesday, Judge Tiffany Foxworth-Roberts of the 19th Judicial District Court ruled in favor of Brooks and his legal team stating that their claims of negligence against LSU and its athletic training staff, specifically Sr. Associate Athletic Trainer Owen Stanley, can be brought forward without a medical review panel.
The panel is brought in for cases of medical malpractice, which Brooks is also bringing forward against LSU and OLOL, but the negligence claims do not require one.
Brooks has been permanently disabled after a brain tumor caused multiple strokes and a complex surgery in the fall of 2023 when he was part of the LSU football team. He and his father spoke with Ryan Clark on The Pivot Podcast about the events leading up to the surgery and the long recovery process.
The discovery phase of the negligence claims can now begin while the malpractice portion of the lawsuit waits on the medical review panel.
Brooks hails from New Orleans and played three seasons at Arkansas before transferring to LSU where he was a starter for a season in the defensive backfield. After two games of the 2023 season, tests revealed the tumor which had been causing multiple symptoms like dizziness and fatigue.
