MARLER: One Nice Thing

Waking up Monday full of disappointment on Labor Day Weekend is not something that’s new for LSU fans. Following their fifth straight season opening loss to USC, starting 0-1 is becoming a tradition almost as consistent as the white jersey, H style goal posts and hearing that the sun is finding its home in the western sky on Saturday night.

And after last night’s loss to USC, I understand the anger, frustration, and overall annoyed “here we go again” attitude from fans. So, let’s talk about something positive and find one nice thing about last night’s loss to USC. And honestly, there were plenty to choose from.

One Nice Thing: Garrett Nussmeier

The Nuss Bus got rolling early and was an absolute problem with Kyren Lacy. He completed over 76 percent of his passes and finished the night with over 300 yards through the air. Many people around Baton Rouge thought the offensive identity on Sunday night would have leaned heavy into the run game. However, Nussmeier carried the LSU offense for most of the night, as it struggled to get going on the ground with Josh Williams and Kaleb Jackson combining for 15 carries and only 51 yards.

He filled up the stat sheet, and while he didn’t get a dub in the win column, Nussmeier was everything you could have wanted in a quarterback replacing (another) Heisman winner Sunday against the Trojans.
