Numbers to Know: SEC Week 7

By Chris Marler
The biggest Saturday of the entire college football season is finally here, and we have an absolutely incredible slate of games this weekend.
Fans have had October 12th circled for months, as there are several must see matchups and games from seemingly every conference. The SEC has multiple marquee games and rivalries on the slate including Tennessee-Florida, Ole Miss-LSU, and the first Red River Rivalry under the SEC logo between Texas and Oklahoma.
But, before you settle in to watch the games this weekend, we have you covered with the “Numbers to Know” for Week 7 in the SEC.
Missouri @ Massachusetts
0: As in the number of SEC teams that should ever schedule a road game to UMass. It’s also the total number of people who will be watching this game outside of Columbia, Missouri.
Kentucky vs Vanderbilt
28.6%: Mark Stoops is just 4-10 against the spread coming off a bye week as a head coach and is just 5-10 overall in regular season games following a bye. Of those five wins, none came against teams with winning records.
1: In 23 total games, Mark Stoops and Kentucky have just one win by seven or more points following 12+ days of rest from a bye week or bowl prep. Kentucky is a 14-point favorite against Vanderbilt this weekend coming off a bye.
Alabama vs South Carolina
591: Alabama has allowed 591 passing yards over the last six quarters on defense. Since halftime of the Georgia game the defense has allowed 67 points, 42 first downs, and 784 total yards of offense.
74: Alabama has given up 74 combined points in their last two games. That’s the most they’ve allowed in back-to-back games since the 2018 college football playoff against Oklahoma and Clemson.
3-14: South Carolina is just 3-14 under Shane Beamer when they don’t win the turnover battle. That’s a winning percentage of just .176. However, when the Gamecocks finish even or win the turnover battle, they are 19-6 under Beamer.
68: Combined sacks (22) and tackles for loss (46) allowed by South Carolina this season. That is the most of any team in the country for those stats combined. Individually, they rank 131st and 134th (last) nationally in TFLs and sacks allowed respectively.
8: Alabama and South Carolina are both averaging over eight penalties per game which ranks 14th and 15th in the SEC respectively.
Tennessee vs Florida
2: Total number of wins Tennessee has over Florida in their last 19 meetings. It’s also the same number of wins they have in Gainesville since 1971 too, but I digress.
1: Florida quarterbacks have combined to throw for just one more incompletion total than touchdowns over the last two games. DJ Lagway and Graham Mertz have combined for five touchdowns and just six incompletions.
1-4: Tennessee has been favored over Florida five times in the last decade. They are 1-4 against the spread in those five games losing three outright.
8-2: Tennessee is 8-2 in games following a loss under Josh Heupel. They’re also 7-3 against the spread in those ten games including a 4-1 mark when favored by 14 or more points.
Georgia vs Mississippi State
2: Georgia has allowed just two second half touchdowns all season.
Texas vs Oklahoma
2: Only two of the last ten games between Texas and Oklahoma were decided by more than one score
100+: Oklahoma’s offense ranks 100th or worse in eight major statistical categories including: rushing yards, yards per rush, passing yards, yards per attempt, total yards, yards per play, sacks allowed, and tackles for loss allowed.
