Oklahoma DL withdraws from portal

By Chris Marler
Oklahoma defensive line Davon Sears has withdrawn his name from the transfer portal. Sears was originally one of 26 Sooners to enter the portal, which was among the five most in the country.
Sears spent his last two seasons in Norman and initially entered his name for the NFL Draft at the end of the 2024 season. However, thanks to the new JUCO eligibility rules, Sears was granted one more year of eligibility. He began his college career in 2020 Ellsworth Community College before spending two seasons at Texas State.
Across two seasons, Sears played in only seven games for the Sooners with just five tackles.
He’s part of a growing trend in college sports this offseason returning for an extra year thanks to the eligibility rules. He also becomes the latest in a new trend of players removing their name from the transfer portal. This portal cycle has seen six percent of players who enter, remove their name. That is up from just 2.5 percent four years ago according to the NCAA’s website.
