Ole Miss fined $500K after fans storm court vs. Tennessee

By Chris Marler
A half a million dollars for a top five win? That’s not a horrible trade off for some on a fall Saturday.
Paying $50,000 per student for rushing a court? That’s an even worse financial decision.
After Ole Miss secured a thrilling 78-76 home victory over No. 4 Tennessee on Wednesday night, the consequences quickly followed. On Friday afternoon, the SEC announced a $500,000 fine for Ole Miss after students stormed the court in celebration.

The fine comes after what the SEC is calling their third offense since the rule was set in place in 2023. The issue is that, by all accounts, Ole Miss handled the situation correctly by keeping everyone off the court until Tennessee’s entire team and staff had exited.
During the broadcast, Ole Miss players were visibly holding both hands up towards students and fans, signaling them to wait until Vols players were off the court. Then, after they were done the celebration ensued.
