PALM BEACH, Fla. – The New Orleans Saints continue to get closer looks at quarterbacks leading up to the NFL Draft.

Per John Hendrix of Athlon Sports, the Saints are expected to host Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers on a top-30 visit.

This isn’t the first time that the two have crossed paths this offseason. After having to withdraw from the Senior Bowl, the Saints met with Ewers at the Scouting Combine and hosted a dinner with him in March before attending his pro day in Austin, Tx.

The Saints have been connected to several quarterbacks this offseason, and may be looking to add to the competition that’s brewing behind starting quarterback Derek Carr.

Head coach Kellen Moore told reporters at the league’s annual meeting Tuesday morning that he intends to have a backup quarterback picked and committed to by the time the regular season begins. A different approach than last season, where the backup quarterback battle between young signal callers Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener raged on into and through the season.

Moore was also clear that the team is intent on continuing to check in on passers in this year’s draft, indicating that the Saints may not hesitate to take a passer if the value is right at some point in the process.

“I think every team in the NFL is always trying to bring in quarterbacks and develop them under any circumstance,” he said. “Everyone does homework on quarterbacks. It’s a very valuable position. We have Derek (Carr), who’s played a ton of football and we feel great about. And certainly our organization has invested quarterbacks the last few years.”

Don’t be surprised if the Saints keep swinging at the position as it plans its future under its new head coach.
