A lot changed in a week for the New Orleans Saints and they are certainly hoping that a lot will change again as they manage some important injuries early in Week 4. The Saints already knew that they would be without starting center Erik McCoy, who has been moved to injured reserve. But they saw a few more concerning absences that were given more context on Wednesday’s injury report:

Did Not Participate:

CB Alontae Taylor (Illness)

RB Alvin Kamara (Hip/Ribs)

OL Cesar Ruiz (Knee)

LB Demario Davis (Hamstring)

OL Erik McCoy (Groin – headed to IR)

Limited Participation:

DT Khalen Saunders (Calf)

LB D’Marco Jackson (Calf)

OL Landon Young (Foot)

Full Participation:

QB Derek Carr (Left Groin)

TE Taysom Hill (Chest)

With Kamara and Ruiz out to start the week, those are going to be the biggest names to watch for a potential return in the coming days. The Saints struggled mightily without their run game against the Philadelphia Eagles. If they end up being without Kamara and Ruiz in addition to the known absence of McCoy, it is going to be challenging to get the ground game churning in Atlanta this weekend.

Some good news though with Saunders and Jackson working their way back. But the highlights come with Carr’s left groin injury not limiting his participation and Hill getting back to full after what looked to be a scary situation for a while. Hill will be vital in supporting the run game that may be without important pieces throughout the week. Thursday and Friday’s injury reports can’t get here soon enough as the Saints hope to get some big names back sooner than later.
