Saints Sign Nacua, Cut Peterman

By Ross Jackson
Just before the eighth day of training camp kicked off, the New Orleans Saints announced two roster moves. The team terminated the contract of quarterback Nathan Peterman and signed wide receiver Samson Nacua.
The 6-foot-3 and 206 pound Nacua is the older brother of Los Angeles Rams star wideout Puka Nacua, who set records as a rookie in 2023. Samson Nacua entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Indianapolis Colts in 2022.
He spent this spring in the UFL catching 11 passes for 125 receiving yards with the Michigan Panthers. He also made two appearances with the Pittsburgh Maulers. Nacua should help the Saints manage several injuries at the position while also adding another big-bodied option.
The Saints also added wide receiver Marquez Callaway on Thursday. They are clearly looking for more help at the position.
The move away from Peterman suggests that the team is very satisfied with what it has seen from its young passers. Rookie Spencer Rattler and second-year signal caller Jake Haener have each had impressive moments throughout the offseason. Now, they should be able to get some additional reps throughout training camp and in the preseason.
