Saints’ rookie Devin Neal to miss multiple weeks

The New Orleans Saints have been impressively healthy throughout camp, especially relative to what the team has experienced in recent years. But this one might have a strong ripple effect.

Head coach Kellen Moore announced in his post-practice media availability on Tuesday that rookie running back Devin Neal will miss “a couple weeks” with a hamstring injury.

That will be the most significant injury experienced in camp since offensive lineman Nick Saldiveri was placed on injured reserve with a reported knee injury.

With Neal expected to be out for multiple weeks, it will limit his preseason opportunities. The sixth-round draft pick was a highly-anticipated player that many were looking forward to seeing during the exhibition matchups. Now, there’s a chance that he may be set to miss two of the three matchups.

This is unusual for Neal, who never missed a collegiate game in his four years at Kansas.

Along with him, the Saints’ running back room is crowded. Backs Kendre Miller, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Cam Akers, Velus Jones Jr. and Marcus Yarns are all vying to take snaps behind and alongside star back Alvin Kamara.
