Twenty-five years after his father starred for a national title team, Drake Hawpe has committed to LSU.

Brad Hawpe manned first base for the 2000 national champs, famously homering off All-American Mark Prior in Omaha along the way. He would go on to play nine seasons of Major League Baseball making the All-Star team with the Rockies in 2009.

Now it’s Drake’s turn.

The younger Hawpe is among the best players in Texas for the 2027 class. He plays for Liberty Christian outside of Dallas.

He’s a left-handed hitter like his father and already stands a towering 6-foot-4. Hawpe is the fifth commitment to LSU since Saturday.
