It was a big Saturday in the SEC, and the momentum will carry into Sunday as Alabama and Florida face off in a big matinee matchup in Gainesville on ABC.
Before the lone ranked matchup takes place on Sunday, here’s a quick recap of what you may have missed on Saturday.
Kentucky gets revenge in Fayetteville
If you’re reading this then you, too, were called for a technical foul in the Arkansas-Kentucky game. It was a wild one in Fayetteville that saw six technical fouls called between the two teams, including four on Kentucky.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early first half lead as Arkansas struggled from the field in the first 20 minutes. For a brief moment it looked like that wouldn’t be enough to hold off the Hogs, who were playing in front of a white out at home.
Freshman phenom Darius Acuff Jr. began to take over halfway through the second half pouring in 22 points on the night. In the end, Mark Pope got a much needed 85-77 win to get back on track and get some revenge against their former head coach John Calipari.
These officials in the Kentucky vs. Arkansas game are an absolute joke, and have made this one about themselves.

It’s time to rank Texas A&M, probably
I’m not sure what else Texas A&M needs to do to earn some respect, but a 7-1 record to start SEC play in the first year of a new coach is certainly worth some.
The Aggies went on the road as an underdog and beat Georgia like a drum. The final score was 92-77, and sure, the Dawgs made it interesting for a few minutes in the second half, but from start to finish the Aggies dominated. Texas A&M jumped out to a 26-6 lead to start the game and ran away with it.
The issue for Texas A&M is that in a down year for the conference as a whole, their strength of schedule is still pretty weak. They are 7-1 in SEC play and sit alone atop the conference standings. The seven teams they have beaten have a combined record of 21-42 in SEC play with their lone loss coming to the only ranked team they’ve played all year, Tennessee.

Who’s fired first
South Carolina and LSU have been the runaway winners for the top two bottom feeders in the conference over the last two seasons. The two teams are 9-45 combined in SEC play since last season. The first coach fired in this conference could almost certainly come from one of those schools, and if we are keeping score, South Carolina’s Lamont Paris got an extension just two years ago after his first season in Columbia. That leaves LSU’s Matt McMahon.
Joining the party is Oklahoma’s Porter Moser. Moser is 11-11 so far this season and 1-8 in conference play. Losing a first round draft pick certainly didn’t help, and neither does his current contract buyout. If he were to be fired after this season, Oklahoma would owe Moser between $5-6 million.
