The final midweek games for February are set for the SEC. Conference tournament seeding remains up for grabs as teams battle for a first-round bye in the SEC Tournament. Here’s what to watch this week.

Conference Tournament Update

One of the biggest surprises of the season has been the Kentucky Wildcats.

Kentucky has lost three in a row. They’re currently in a four-way tie for fourth place with an 8-6 conference record. They entered this season with the highest paid roster in the conference at $22 million and expectations of getting back to a Final Four. As it stands today they won’t even have a first round bye in the SEC tournament and would be the No. 9 Seed playing LSU on Wednesday.

The goal for everyone in this tournament should be to avoid Florida for as long as possible. They’re currently the No. 1 seed and have won seven in a row.

Latest Bracketology

The latest bracketology for CBS is out, and the SEC further extended its lead for most selections by conference. The SEC currently has 11 teams projected in the field. Two weeks ago they trailed the Big Ten who had 11 to the SEC’s ten.

Here’s every team’s projected seeding as of Monday, Feb. 23.

No. 3 Florida

No. 4 Alabama

No. 5 Vanderbilt

No. 5 Arkansas

No. 5 Tennessee

No. 7 Kentucky

No. 8 Georgia

No. 9 Auburn

No. 9 Texas

No. 9 Texas A&M

No. 11 Missouri

Game of the Week

Texas A&M travels to Arkansas on Wednesday in a game between the No. 4 and 5 teams in the league. The Aggies opened SEC play 7–1, but have since dropped four of six and now sit outside the top four, which earns a double bye in the conference tournament.

The Aggies stand alone in third place in the SEC at 9-5, but still sit behind three teams who are tied for second at 10-4. Arkansas is one of those teams, having won four of its last five games and boasting a 14-1 record at home this season.

Texas A&M’s offense scores a lot of points and currently ranks in the top ten nationally in scoring offense. They’ll need to find a way to score at least 85-90 if they have a chance to beat the Hogs in Bud Walton Arena.

Upset Alert

The Commodores have been great this season, and they have worked their way back into the top 25 this week. They’ll host Georgia who has been very good on the road. They rank sixth nationally in scoring at 90.2 ppg, and are desperate for a win here.

Their projected eight seed status isn’t in question, and with Mississippi State and South Carolina still on the schedule they should get two more wins before the end of the regular season. A win on the road against a top 25 Vanderbilt would all but etch their name in the bracket regardless of what happens the rest of the way.
