In a deep wide receiver class, the New Orleans Saints are in position to strike and add talent to their top-heavy position group via the NFL Draft. While the top talent in the class will often be the gifts of conversation, there are some impressive mid-round names to know.
Not the least of which being Georgia State receiver Ted Hurst.
A likely Day 2 pick, Hurst already has a top-30 visit reportedly lined up with the Saints.
With his combination of size and athleticism, it’s hard to not see him fitting into any offensive system, let alone Saints head coach Kellen Moore’s. His speed allows him to win downfield vertically, but he can also challenge the field horizontally and put a ton of stress on the middle of the field.
He provides the type of weapon Moore has been accustomed to winning with similar to Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert and former Los Angeles Chargers wideout Keenan Allen.

Beyond his speed, Hurst has the physicality and playing demeanor that can win at the line of scrimmage against NFL press corners. He has intangibles that every team desires with a confident, aggressive approach to his game.
With the ball in the air, he’s proven to be an asset. Per Pro Football Focus, he’s brought in better than 60% of his contested catch opportunities throughout his collegiate career.
He’d be an immediate asset to New Orleans as a jump ball merchant with every tool necessary to see that role continue to expand throughout his rookie year.

Pros
- Quintessential height/weight/speed prospect.
- Long arms and explosive vertical create an expansive catch radius.
- Once cashed in Marler’s game prop in the first quarter.
- Gets north and south quickly to gain additional yards after catch. “
Opportunities for Growth
- Very few blocking snaps in his career.
- Level of competition leap from Georgia State will be significant.
- More special teams experience could he’ll him stick while developing and adjusting to the next level.
The Bottom Line
The Savannah, Geo. native may need some time to fully settle in, but he’d be a worthwhile investment, especially for Moore’s offense.
Adding another Devaugh Vele-like receiver to the room could provide some benefits both in terms of versatility and variety in playmaking situations.
Hurst’s current projected range puts him in Day 2, likely inside the top-75. The Saints’ No. 73 overall third-round selection may be their best last chance if he’s still on the board then.
