LSU Baseball
By Chris Marler
It’s the biggest weekend of the year in SEC Baseball. Nearly half the league series we get this weekend are between ranked opponents. We begin the second half of the SEC regular season with a bang, so let’s get to it.
It’s now or never
If LSU is going to make a run and turn this thing around, it needs to start this weekend against those “absolute dorks” at A&M as my co-worker Hunt Palmer would say. LSU is dragging far behind where anyone thought a team with this level of talent would be right now. They need to figure out who they are and do it fairly quickly. This weekend they will play host to Texas A&M. There’s no better opportunity to get your swagger back than to remind little brother, or in this case weirdo cousin, that you still run things around here.

Florida’s weird run
We brought this up last week, and it’s only continued since then. Florida’s 2026 season is a statistical anomaly of the weirdest kind. They were able to knock off Auburn in game one of their weekend series on Thursday. That increases their season record to 11-1 against Top 25 teams. It’s also on the heels of yet another midweek loss to Bethune-Cookman. Talk about showing up when the lights get brightest.
Aidan King shoves, Cyr homers and Florida adds another Top 25 win.
Peterson and Russ going behind him? Is this some consistency from the Gators 👀

Best Series
Georgia heads to Baum Walker to take on an Arkansas team that has finally awoken from its slumber. Arkansas won the opener on Thursday over the top ten Dawgs and have now won four straight against top ten SEC opponents. The “Hogs and Dawgs” very much feels like a preview of a Super Regional matchup for this time in a month or so. Arkansas’s resurgence has been a sight for sore eyes around Fayetteville. A big part of it has been their pitching which has finally turned a corner and held one of the country’s best offenses to just three runs in game one of the series. Can they continue to keep Georgia hitters from exiting the ballpark? They’ll need to if they want to keep this winning streak alive.
Who’s on upset alert?
Mississippi State is heading to the absolute snake pit that is Founders Park to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks. Just kidding.
The correct answer is the other in-state school from Mississippi. Ole Miss heads to Knoxville in a showdown between two teams that had incredible sweeps a week ago, yet didn’t seem to gain any traction in their national relevance or standing. Ole Miss looked really good last weekend against a struggling LSU team on the road. However, the Vols get a really opportune time for back to back home weekends. They’re coming off a sweep of their own against a much better team. Ole Miss is the ranked team in this matchup, but don’t be surprised if the Vols take the series.
