We continue our series of positivity discussing one thing we aren’t talking enough about for each SEC team ahead of the 2026 season. Up next, the Georgia Bulldogs.
The young talent on the offensive line
Games in the SEC are won and lost in the trenches. And Georgia has won a lot of games in the Kirby Smart era. Those two things have certainly gone hand in hand since he’s been in Athens. Georgia has bullied people with their offensive line for years. They’ve been able to push people around whether it be under the tutelage of Sam Pittman or Matt Luke.
The level of dominance on their offensive line has waned a little over the past two seasons. That should change this year. The Bulldogs’ offensive line isn’t a veteran one, and it doesn’t have a ton of experience. That doesn’t mean it won’t be extremely talented with younger players, nor does it mean that there won’t be a few surprises along their starting five up front.
We talked to Clint Shamblin of LockedOn Bulldogs, and he had some rave reviews for several young players.
“Three star Zykie Helton is crushing camp and may be the starting RG as a true freshman. He would join Juan Gaston, as well as Glover on a young but powerful line,” said Chamblin.
Those comments echoed what former Georgia All-American David Pollack said in April on his “See Ball Get Ball” Podcast.
“If you are a Georgia fan and you want to win and you want to bludgeon people and be ground to pound, it sounds like this freshman, he’s your dude,” Pollack continued. “Because they say he’s mauling people in practice. Everybody I talk to, I’m like, give me a name. Zykie Helton. Everybody across the board (says Helton). Like he’s that kind of good.”

Kirby Smart has never cared about style points in Athens. He cares about winning games. When Georgia has been at their best it’s usually been with a gritty and gutsy homegrown quarterback who isn’t worried about putting up big numbers or being a top round draft pick in April. They have that in Gunner Stockton. Stockton is a selfless player who just wants to win games. If that means turning around and handing it off to a stable of backs that can run over people, then fantastic.
That might be the exact blueprint for this year’s Georgia team behind a young, but very talented offensive line than can maul people. And that’s something we aren’t talking about enough for Georgia ahead of the 2026 season.
