LSU lands Tulane transfer Jason Wachs

LSU Athletics

The 2027 lineup is coming into focus.

Tulane transfer outfielder Jason Wachs likely factors in. The left-handed hitting South Florida native pledged to the Tigers on Sunday to continue a flurry of good news for Jay Johnson’s next team. He had also considered Florida, Florida State, Miami and Tennessee.

Wachs spent two seasons in Uptown New Orleans. He was the Wave’s best hitter in 2026, hitting .327 with nine homers and an OPS of 1.027. He led the team in batting, home runs, doubles, RBI and walks.

Johnson has propensity to grab players he scouts and even those who hit LSU pitching well. Cade Kurland, who committed to LSU on Thursday, has crushed Tiger arms dating back to Omaha in 2023. Wachs doesn’t have that kind of history, but he did go 3-for-5 with a homer, a double and three RBI in the Tulane-LSU game this spring.

Wachs has played all three outfield spots for Tulane with the majority of his starts coming in right field. He’s a good athlete at 6-foot-2 and should fit nicely in an outfield with Bino Watters and William Patrick. It’s expected that some competition will arrive later this summer from the freshman class.

Wachs will spend the summer on Cape Cod with the Wareham Gatemen.
