3 positions Saints could still address before training camp

Now that the off-season on-field work is complete and the New Orleans Saints have had a chance to get an early evaluation of their roster, the team could have some clarity about what’s left to address along the depth chart.

Some of the most obvious positions have been addressed with recent signings, but some depth areas could still potentially see some attention before the team reports to training camp.

Here are three positions that the Saints could look at add on to in the coming weeks.

Cornerback

Behind starters Kool-Aid McKinstry and Quincy Riley, New Orleans has some veteran depth with Isaac Yiadom and Martin Emerson Jr., who was signed in free agency after the draft.

The team could feel comfortable at the position, however, coming out of the draft, both head coach Kellen Moore and general manager Mickey Loomis expressed a desire to invest more at corner despite not being able to.

Last year, Loomis said something similar about missing opportunities to add wide receivers in the 2025 NFL Draft. When that happened, the Saints went on to trade for two wideouts ahead of the regular season, Ja’Lynn Polk and Devaughn Vele. Perhaps the team will decide to be just as aggressive this year in adding more depth at corner.

Offensive Tackle

Behind talented starters Taliese Fuaga and Kelvin Banks Jr., the Saints have only one proven veteran asset at tackle in Asim Richards, who was also acquired last year via trade.

While the team is excited about undrafted rookies Alan Herron and Alex Wollschlaeger, the potential to add another veteran backup could be tempting, especially at or after roster cuts.

Running Back

Even beyond the questions around Alvin Kamara’s future, the Saints are still dealing with some injuries at running back that could necessitate further exploration at the position.

Devin Neal and Kendre Miller are expected to be back in action early in training camp, but the position has been often hit with ailments over recent years.

Continuing to add options behind bona fide No. 1 Travis Etienne Jr. could be hard to pass up if the right opportunity were to present itself.
