LSU lands Oregon Freshman All-American Angel Laya

Jay Johnson landed a third outfielder in the transfer portal cycle when Oregon transfer Angel Laya committed to the Tigers Friday. He made the announcement via his Instagram account.

He joins Notre Dame All American Bino Watters and Jason Wachs from Tulane.

The 6-foot-3, 206 pound Laya earned freshman All American honors during his lone season with the Ducks. He started all 59 games in which he played, hitting .296 with 10 doubles and 14 homeruns. He did not commit an error in 72 chances.

LSU is likely replacing its entire outfield with Chris Stanfield out of eligibility and Derek Curiel and Jake Brown likely headed to pro ball after this month’s MLB Draft.

In addition to Watters and Wachs, rising sophomore William Patrick returns after making 33 appearances with 12 starts during his freshman season.
