An offseason addition that could have a sizable impact for the New Orleans Saints often flies under the radar when new acquisitions are discussed. From his ability as a pass-catcher and blocker, tight end Noah Fant is likely to be a key contributor right away as the season begins.
With other attention-grabbing additions like first-round wide receiver Jordyn Tyson and Louisiana-native running back Travis Etienne Jr., Fant is often glossed over when it comes to the Saints’ offseason moves.
But his abilities should become quickly involved in helping the offense move the football.
He has both overlapping and complementary skills with top tight end Juwan Johnson in the passing game that should create some disguise opportunities for head coach Kellen Moore’s offense. He can run crossers to stretch the field vertically, like Johnson found success doing in 2025, but can also be a constant vertical threat up the seam.
Perhaps the most impactful element of Fant’s game, though, will be his ability after the catch.
In his career, Fant averaged 5.7 yards after the catch, including a 2025 average of 5.2. Both rates would have been No. 2 on the Saints’ roster last year among all offensive players with at least 20 receptions. He would have slotted in behind running back Alvin Kamara, who averaged 6.1, per Pro Football Focus.
Among all Saints tight ends and wide receivers with at least 20 receptions last year, Fant would have ranked first in this metric. Johnson would be second with 5.0 yards after catch per grab.
This is the kind of production after the reception that may not blow the top off of a defense, but it turns five-yard slants into first downs and 10-yard receptions into potential explosive plays.
Fant’s greatest contribution to New Orleans in 2026 may be his ability to extend plays, pick up extra yardage and move the chains.
