It’s nearly the halfway point of the season at this point, and we are fresh off a trip to Starkville to watch Alabama. Last week’s slate was one of the weakest of the entire season, but Week 6? Week 6 is a banger. Let’s head to Dallas.
Week 6: Oklahoma-Texas
There are multiple options for big games to attend on Oct. 10. Alabama hosts Georgia in what has become one of the biggest non-rivalry rivalries in the entire country. That matchup has routinely been the biggest game of the year for several years in this conference as of recently.
There’s also a very underrated big game in Gainesville that weekend between South Carolina and Florida. Both of those pale in comparison to what is happening in Dallas. Let’s head to the Texas State Fair to watch Texas-Oklahoma.
Texas versus Oklahoma always has a lot on the line, but this year could especially be one to remember. It’s early enough in the season that the loser will still have time to recover. But the winner will be well ahead of schedule and in prime position to make another College Football Playoff run.
Both teams have massive September matchups that could result in losses. Oklahoma travels to Michigan and Georgia. Texas hosts Ohio State and travels to Knoxville to play Tennessee. It’s hard to imagine those four games not resulting in at least one loss between these two teams.
The expanded playoff may lessen the urgency of this rivalry, but it won’t diminish its significance. The winner earns bragging rights and likely takes control of the SEC race while strengthening its College Football Playoff resume.
This game will feature two of the most elite defenses in the country, two of the best receivers in the conference and one of the best quarterback matchups in the league. On top of all that, it includes corn dogs and fried Oreos. Sign me up, immediately.
