In what will be the final practice before pads go on, the New Orleans Saints return to the field for their fourth day of practice on Sunday. The day will provide an opportunity to see the players return to action after a day off.
A rest Saints team will draw intrigue all over the roster. But it’s the second-year players and the continued grower that will draw eyes with fans in attendance.
S Jonas Sanker
As he continues his adjustment to a new position, Sanker has become a lot of fun to track in practices. He’s taken snaps from both the field and boundary sides, fit the run, dropped into coverage and at least threatened as a pass rusher. Watching his role continue to expand has been one of the more interesting developments so far.
With pads going on a day later, this could be a chance to see some work on new responsibilities more often in preparation.
TE Moliki Matavao
After standing out with physical catches and play over the first trio of days, a day off could provide Matavao the rest necessary to continue his ascension.
He’s been the next big-catch factor at the position throughout camp so far behind Juwan Johnson and Noah Fant. As he looks to make a leap in year two, continuing to put together strong catches in traffic and playing physical in the run game will help.
EDGE Fadil Diggs
Diggs has had a lot of success getting into the backfield so far throughout camp. While that will really be put to the test when pads go on Monday, taking advantage of the final day in shells is a good opportunity for him.
He was charted as being in position for a pair of sacks during day two. With rest, he could be even more of a problem against the second and third offensive units on Day 4.
