3 players to watch at Saints camp day 5

The pads are finally going on at New Orleans Saints training camp day five and the excitement is clear. The competition level has already been high, but it’s about to take another step forward. The same is true for physicality.

Head coach Kellen Moore said that “real football” begins when the pads go on and both the offensive and defensive lines have expressed excitement. That’s why two trench players lead off Monday’s three players to watch.

EDGE Anfernee Jennings

Every person that’s been asked about Jennings has celebrated his ability to set the edge and be a force in the run game on defense. Beyond that, he’s been elevated as an underrated pass rusher as well. He’s already had some standout moments in camp , but the padded practice environment lends itself to the best of Jennings.

OL David Edwards

Edwards has already been a tone-setter in camp, now as the physicality ramps up, he has another chance to lead the way. Edwards is a strong run blocker, a lot of the first day of pads is usually dedicated to that area of the game, elevating his impact immediately.

RB Travis Etienne Jr.

With a focus on the run game, Etienne is going to be a core focus for many as well. Even with pads, contact will be limited, but the timing of the run plays should provide a chance to see his vision, decision-making and explosiveness at full tilt.
