On Sunday the Southpoint Sportsbook released its college football “Game of the Year” betting lines. It included 62 games on the season and 27 SEC games. We’re still more than 40 days away from any of the games listed, which is one reason why the max bet allowed is just $2,000. It’s never too early to make some money, though.
Georgia (-4) at Alabama
This one can come back to burn Georgia bettors. It used to be a total anomaly for Alabama to be an underdog in any game, but they’ve been an underdog against Georgia in their last six consecutive games against them dating back to 2021.
Georgia heads back to Tuscaloosa for the second time in three years. Kirby Smart still has a bit of a monkey on his back when it comes to Alabama. Georgia has dominated nearly every other team in the conference since he took over nine years ago, but Smart is just 2-7 against Alabama during that time.
This year feels like the version of this game that we’ll get will be much more similar to what we saw in Atlanta last year in the SEC Championship game. Alabama will be breaking in a first year quarterback and should be completely overmatched in the trenches by Georgia.
LSU (Pick) at Tennessee
LSU should be really good this year. There are about six games on the schedule that should give the Tigers pause, but they’ll get four of those (Clemson, Alabama, Texas A&M and Texas) at home.
This is one of the two on the road and is in a very interesting part of the season. This game will be on the heels of back-to-back games against Alabama and Texas. A grand finale in that three game stretch being a trip to Rocky Top could be a nightmare to a lot of teams.
Everyone has talked about the bitter ex that Ole Miss has turned into and how hostile of an environment that game will be in Oxford. Do y’all remember the last time Kiffin went to Knoxville? It should be a great game and an incredible atmosphere, but LSU should be a much better team. They should also be focused with their playoff hopes still alive in late November.
Texas (-3) at Texas A&M
I don’t see it with Texas A&M this year. It’s hard to imagine a team that lost four starters on the offensive line, a first round pick at wide receiver and their offensive coordinator.
Texas, on the other hand, got significantly better. They currently have four players projected in the top 12 of next year’s NFL Draft, and they’re all at the most important positions in the sport.
Forget about the quarterback position, there’s a legitimate case to be made that they have the best left tackle, wide receiver, EDGE rusher and running back tandem in the SEC. Most importantly, they have already shown that winning in College Station isn’t that difficult after their win there two years ago. That was one of their two wins in two tries against the Aggies since this rivalry has been renewed.
