There has been a lot of focus on the New Orleans Saints offense throughout camp as everyone awaits the starting group to catch fire. But the progress is there, even if not measurable through social media highlights. Overall, the condition is a symptom of a big win for the Saints’ training camp so far: a stout defense.

After a busy offseason on the offensive side, many curiosities arose around whether or not the team did enough on defense to take a step forward. Heading into the seventh day of camp, we’ll be watching three players on the defensive side that exemplify the team’s continued progress.

S Jonas Sanker

One of the biggest questions of the offseason got an immediate answer once the team reported for offseason practices. However, that didn’t diminish the intrigue. Sanker has looked like a quick fit at the position, and now that pads have come on, he’s gotten more opportunities to show off what he can do as a pass rusher. That will continue as the Saints move indoors.

EDGE Chase Young

Young has been the guy to set the tone for the defense since the Saints got back to team activities. His disruptive contributions and high energy have been undeniable throughout practices and he shows no signs of slowing down.

S Justin Reid

Another energetic spark plug for the defense, Reid has been all over the field so far this camp and consistently finds his way around the football both while playing in the box or dropping deep. The pairing of he and fellow safety Julian Blackmon will be key to the success of the Saints’ defensive passing game.
