The first week of SEC fall camp is in the books, and we’re officially less than a month away from every team taking the field. Here’s a recap of the biggest storylines to emerge around the league so far.
Sam Leavitt stealing headlines
The No. 1 ranked player in the transfer portal for the 2026 cycle will be suiting up in purple and gold this fall. Quarterback Sam Leavitt answered any remaining questions about his health this week at LSU’s first practices of the season.
His foot looks healed and according to his coach, Lane Kiffin, you would barely even know he was injured. Leavitt spent much of the offseason working with his bevy of receivers that Kiffin and his staff assembled. So far it’s been nothing but rave reviews along with highlight reel throws.
Cam Coleman shows out
Speaking of highlight reel moments, Cam Coleman nearly broke the internet on Saturday with a video of his absolutely absurd one handed catch at Texas’ fall camp. Coleman broke open on a route over the middle and went up and behind himself to bring in an errant throw.
Naturally, the internet immediately went into speculation mode wondering who could’ve thrown the ball that wildly. Rest easy Longhorn fans, reports from the actual practice session revealed that it was a ball tipped at the line, and not an accuracy issue from Arch Manning.
Auburn’s “staycation” slander
Not everyone loved Alex Golesh’s attempt at replicating an NFL training camp. Golesh used the first two weeks of Auburn’s fall camp as an opportunity for team bonding, isolating the players from distractions on campus.
This isn’t the first time Golesh has adopted this idea. He did the same in Year 1 of his time at South Florida. Still, not everyone was impressed with the move.
Al.com writer Joe Goodman wrote a lengthy article about how the move was soft. It was a gross overreaction to a fairly common thing seen this time of year. It lit a wildfire of even more overreactions on social media.
