What was initially expected to be a not-too-serious hamstring injury for New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson has turned into one that will now keep him out for the start of the NFL season.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill, the Saints first-rounder is expected to miss “roughly two months” with the hamstring injury he suffered during joint practices with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Head Coach Kellen Moore said that the injury he suffered during the practice was different than the one that ended his final season at Arizona State early and reaggravated during the draft process.
“It’s not anything related to a previous hamstring injury,” he said. “It’s something new. So, they’ll collect some more information on that, put together an action plan for that moving forward and keep progressing as well as we can.”
It’s an unfortunate turn of events for the explosive rookie wide receiver who had been impressing throughout training camp, but will provide a short in the arm upon his return, which is presently expected to be some time in October.
That means he will likely be a short-term Injured Reserve candidate, keeping him sidelined for at least the first four weeks.
This would be the right play for the short-term in order to maximize his long-term outlook.
The Saints offense has added a long list of weapons. This offseason, so it will not be short playmaking ability.
