Quincy Riley injury another that could go into season

The injury news isn’t improving for the New Orleans Saints

After the Saints learned that they’ll be without running back Alvin Kamara for an extended period of time, the team is now bracing to be without Quincy Riley for a bit, as well.

“They’ll each be a couple or a few weeks,” Head Coach Kellen Moore said about both players. “Alvin with the knee, Quincy with the groin. They’ll be okay, they’ve got to get back healthy.”

When asked if the injuries could linger into the regular season, Moore didn’t put a full stamp on it either way, but did acknowledge the possibility.

“I don’t know, we’ll see. Maybe,” said Moore.

That means that with Riley sidelined, at least for a few weeks, cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. is primed to leap into the first team lineup.

The Saints signed Emerson during the offseason and while fellow veteran corner Isaac Yiadom has more experience in the system, Emerson has been on a tear in camp and had an impressive preseason debut.

The list of Saints players now missing extended time is becoming concerning, but at least there’s some depth where the team has taken its recent hits at wide receiver, running back and cornerback.

However, if the team doesn’t course correct its current injury trajectory, that depth can quickly begin to deplete.
