Slowly but surely, LSU’s basketball roster is taking shape.
For the second time this month, first year head coach Will Wade secured a commitment from a UCLA transfer, this time from guard Donovan Dent.
The 6-foot-2 point guard played three seasons at New Mexico before his arrival in Westwood. As a Bruin, Dent started 34 games and averaged 7.6 assists as the primary ball distributor. He also added 13.3 points per game on 41 percent shooting.
Dent was third in the nation in assists and assist-to-turnover ratio. His 265 assists are the second most in UCLA history (behind Lonzo Ball) in a single season. He twice posted 15 assists in a game, and 11 times he had double-figure assists.
In the Big Ten Tournament, Dent notched a triple-double against Rutgers.
Dent was just a 25% three-point shooter, but his chief role is ball handling. Earlier this summer, Dent announced he had retired from basketball but changed his mind and will join the Tigers in 2016-27.
