For the second time this month, LSU has lost a legend.
Jerry Stovall has died. His No. 21 hangs above Tiger Stadium’s south endzone. He was 85 years old.

Stovall was a unanimous All-American for the Tigers in 1962. He was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year and won the Walter Camp Memorial Trophy the same season.
He went on to be the second overall pick in the 1963 NFL Draft and was a three-time Pro Bowler with the St. Louis Cardinals of the NFL.
After his eight-year playing career, Stovall returned to LSU as an assistant coach under Charles McClendon. When Bo Rein tragically died in a plane crash, Stovall was named the head coach of his alma mater in 1980. He coached four seasons with a record of 22-21-2.
In 1990, he was named Director of Athletics for Louisiana Tech.
