After a 1-1 start for the New Orleans Saints, a host of players have been contributing to the success. But one player that has gotten off to a fast start that’s had a major impact: wide receiver Chris Olave.
Currently ranked No. 2 in the NFL in receiving yards with 268 through the first two weeks of the season, Olave has been the go-to player in the Saints’ passing game and thus their offense.
While the Saints have invested in their run game, it’s been the air attack that’s been the team’s brand.
Olave is a big part of the reason why that is the case.
Not only has his impact been felt just in moments when the team has trailed, but he’s served as a spark plug for the team to get the ball moving and keep drives alive.
He has five of his 18 receptions on third downs so far this season, and all five have generated first downs. He’s helped to move the chains and get the offense going.
Additionally, he’s been key in clutch situations. Nine of his 18 receptions have come in the fourth quarter along 118 of his receiving yards and a touchdown catch.
Olave’s been off to a fast start, even with the team’s slow starts in games. When New Orleans gets its offense churning early, the wideout’s numbers will only skyrocket.
His offseason investment, a four-year, $132 million deal, has been worth every penny here early in the season.
