It’s Monday which means it’s time for our weekly SEC stock report. Who should you buy and who should you sell in a wild Week 6 in the league.
Stock Up: Kirby Smart motivational speaking tours
You can tell when Kirby Smart is really excited for a big win and wants to put the nation on notice. Every once in a while the coach, who keeps things the closest to the vest of anyone in this league, magically has a locker room speech leak onto social media. It happened after Florida a few years ago, and one from the LSU SEC Championship Game in 2022 leaked right before the national title against TCU as well. Smart has struggled with getting over the Alabama hump, and he apparently wanted everyone to know that the monkey on his back was not only off, but also dead.
Not one but two videos leaked of his locker room speeches after their big win in Tuscaloosa, and buddy, they are not for the faint of heart. Prepare for two things, a lot of bad words and wanting to run directly through a brick wall.
Stock Down: SEC Officiating
It’s been bad for years, but what in the world got into SEC officials this weekend. Two of the most exciting games of the day were both heavily influenced by the officials. The Georgia-Alabama game and Kentucky-LSU both had incredible finishes. However, the feelings from fans, and coaches, from the losing sides, had some pretty strong feelings about the ways their teams lost. Clock issues at the end of the half marred the flow of the game for both. Facemasks, presnap penalties, and one giant missed pass interference did so as well.
But, the cool thing is, since officiating is unlike literally any other job you’ve ever had, held or heard of – there will be no accountability or consequences. Fun!
Stock Up: Unsportsmanlike celebrations
“Sportsmanship is for losers.” – Gandhi
Ok that’s obviously not a real quote, so hopefully LSU head coach Lane Kiffin doesn’t make an AI graphic of it to post all around the football ops building. However, sportsmanship as a whole in this league is often overrated. We love talking trash after big rivalry wins, and we love dunking on someone when they’re down. There were several instances this weekend that included all three including one in a very literal sense.
Take a look.
