After owner Gayle Benson’s public and critical statements of the team’s performance, all eyes are on the New Orleans Saints to see if the team’s leadership can correct their current course after a 1-4 start.
In order to do so, the team will have to secure a win on the road in Week 6 against the New York Giants before heading to Paris for the first ever NFL game held in France.
But one element of the team’s performance that will have to wait until after the bye week to be evaluated will be its disappointing record at home.
“Words will not restore our fans’ confidence,” Benson said. “Our performance must do that.”
Since the departure of former head coach Sean Payton, the Saints are 15-22 at home in the Caesars Superdome. That 40.5% win percentage is a steep fall from Payton’s 64.8% (83-45) win rate.
Since current head coach Kellen Moore took the mantle in 2025, the team is only 3-8 over his 11 home games, a 27.3% win rate with what is widely considered one of the best home field advantage settings in the NFL.
The problems at home are not uniquely Moore’s. The team’s decline in front of New Orleans fans started well before his hiring. But it will be his job next to turn things around.
And, based on Benson’s comments, it may thus become his consequence to pay if he doesn’t. This will be a critical measure of progress as the season rolls along.
Pulling off wins in New Jersey and in Paris will represent good progress for New Orleans. But the real test may come at home against the Cleveland Browns in Week 9 coming off the bye week.
