It’s a special edition of Winning & Boozing this week. Actually, make that Wedding & Boozing, because my lovely fiancée and I are getting married Friday.
Before anyone starts complaining about fall weddings, relax. We’re getting married Friday and hosting a 100-person tailgate to watch football Saturday. We thought this through.
So with that being said, cheers to me, cheers to you and cheers to my fiancé for saying I do.
There’s no way in hell she’s reading this, guys.
Texas A&M at Alabama
It’s been 14 years since Texas A&M knocked off Alabama in Tuscaloosa. That game took some magic from Johnny Manziel. It will probably take more of the same this week if they are hoping to pull off another one this weekend.
Alabama is reeling after suffering two consecutive regular season losses for the first time since 2007. They should get a slump buster in the form of an Aggie team that has underwhelmed horribly this year.
The Winning
Alabama 31, Texas 20
The Boozing
Four Loko.
Real ones remember that beautiful time in the early 2010s when 18-26 year olds were fueled by David Guetta bangers and Four Lokos. I’m fairly certain the original recipe called for ecstasy, uppers, downers, ivermectin and a few other substances best left unidentified.
Those are all things not approved by the FDA but absolutely approved by Johnny Manziel.
It feels symbolic of this matchup and makes the perfect drink for both fan bases. A&M fans can enjoy the nostalgia, while Bama fans can drown their sorrows in multiple tall boys of that not-so-sweet elixir if they hit rock bottom.
LSU at Auburn
LSU has been terrible on the road, with its last conference road win coming at Arkansas in 2024. But if the SEC has taught us anything this season, it’s that Auburn has all the makings of a classic letdown spot.
Auburn has been much better than anyone realized. That’s not just because of the Georgia win either. Their resume is arguably better than Alabama’s considering their losses and best win.
Still, LSU is playing really well, and if it weren’t for that one point loss to Kentucky, we might be talking about this team as the best in the SEC right now.
Expect it to be close early, but Sam Leavitt and LSU’s offense are too much for Auburn for 60 minutes.
The Winning
LSU 30, Auburn 20
The Boozing
Champagne.
Nothing has ever made more sense in this series.
It’s an early game. My soon to be bride is an Auburn grad that’s getting married to me in Baton Rouge.
We’ll kick off the morning after the wedding with a champagne toast as our “hair of the dog.” And for our LSU friends joining the tailgate, they can raise a glass to what will surely be their first SEC road win in nearly two years.
Cheers y’all.
