Saints season could be determined in next five games

Looking ahead to the New Orleans Saints upcoming opponents following the bye week, an already tough start to the season doesn’t appear to lighten up anytime soon. The Saints’ season will likely be determined in the next handful of weeks.

The Saints (2-5) have faced the NFL’s eighth-hardest schedule, per Sharp football stats.

Now, with a continuing gauntlet of successful teams on the horizon, the Saints’ season may be saved or doomed in the next five weeks.

Saints Upcoming Opponents
  • Cleveland Browns (5-2)
  • Carolina Panthers (3-3)
  • Chicago Bears (5-2)
  • Cincinnati Bengals (4-2)
  • Green Bay Packers (4-3)

New Orleans will face the fourth-hardest schedule in the NFL over the next five weeks. The five teams they’ll face have combined for a 63.6% win percentage.

The best-case scenario is that the team wins all five, advancing their record to 7-5. There’s been nothing to suggest such a stretch is close to realistic. Instead, another best case scenario could be a 3-2 mark to build some momentum as a 5-7 team looking to make a push in Week 14-18.

Over the season’s final five games, the team is currently in line to have the easiest strength of schedule.

However, the worst-case scenario, five consecutive losses, puts the team at risk of falling back from last year’s six-win total.

At that point, the team’s season is effectively decided at 2-10 with a ceiling of 7-10, calling into question the team’s path forward and their immediate future.
