The New Orleans Saints’ first-round pick wide receiver Jordyn Tyson is expected to return to the practice field for the first time in nearly three months.
Per Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, Tyson is expected to be back at practice on Wednesday, as the team begins its preparations for its Week 9 game against the Cleveland Browns.
This does make it possible for Tyson to be available and on the field to face Cleveland, but does not yet guarantee that he will be. At the very least, this would mean that his return to the active roster is within the next 21 days.
Tyson was drafted No. 8 overall by the Saints in the 2026 NFL Draft but has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury during the team’s Aug. 13 joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Since then, the team has been very cautious around his injury, going to extensive lengths to ensure that he has fully healed before putting him back out on the football field.
His return to practice is indicative of significant progress towards getting the team’s passing offense to full strength. The Saints had hoped to spend much of their offense with Tyson sharing the field with wide receivers Chris Olave and Devaughn Vele. Instead, the team has fielded their two veterans with fellow rookie Bryce Lance for 279 offensive snaps so far this season, the largest share of snaps for a three-wideout group in the NFL so far this season.
Adding Tyson in will give the team another dynamic threat, one that can run routes both on the perimeter and from the slot and one that brings legitimate yards after catch threat as well.
While his return to practice may not lead to his impact being seen as soon as the team’s game against the Browns, it does officially start the clock for the return the team has been waiting to see.
Tyson finished his college career with 158 receptions, 2,282 receiving yards (14.4 yards per catch) and 22 touchdown catches in his four years with the Colorado Buffaloes and Arizona State Sun Devils.
