Bombs Away

Georgia leads the country in home runs this season with 70. Ryland Zaborowski and Robbie Burnett are both seeing a beach ball at the plate right now. Through 26 games, they have 14 and 13 home runs, respectively, and both have an OPS of over 1.500.

All of that is impressive. However, what’s even more impressive is what the Dawgs did in Gainesville this weekend against Florida. UGA hit 13 home runs in three games during the series. Florida scored 13 runs.

Georgia matched Florida’s total runs with home runs this weekend. It’s an impressive feat when you consider that they’re doing this a year after losing No. 3 overall draft pick Charlie Condon who led the country in home runs a year ago with 37.

Backs against the Vols

Get it? It’s a pun. Nevermind.

What a difference a weekend can make. Tennessee started the week as the only undefeated team left in the country. Then, they lost two games in a row, including the first game of their series against No. 12 Alabama on the road. The Vols bounced back and won both games against Alabama, and after LSU’s series loss to Texas, they are now in line to be the No. 1 team in the country once again.

Buy low, sell high

There are three teams in the SEC who are winless in SEC play—Missouri, Florida, and Texas A&M.

There are two more teams who are currently 1-5—Mississippi State and South Carolina.

Among those teams, which is the best buy-low candidate? The choice comes down to Florida or Texas A&M—not just because they were preseason top-10 teams. The surprising pick? Texas A&M.

Look at the records. It may not seem obvious, but one of those teams is not like the other. Yes, Florida has been swept in two straight series against top five teams, and one would think the schedule will ultimately get easier. However, Florida has the second worst ERA as a pitching staff in the conference at 5.22 runs per game. The Aggies have the second best with a 3.31 ERA.

The bats should eventually heat up, and pitching and defense always travel in baseball. Give me the Aggies.
